Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RFP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or, failing that, the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Constant edit warring from various IP users, who are likely sockpuppeters as it is the same low-quality text being repeatedly added. SleepDeprivedGinger (talk) 12:44, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked: 2a02:8400::/25 (talk · contribs). Sdrqaz (talk) 16:44, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sqrdaz: /25 ranges cannot be blocked. Did you mean something else? Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:08, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ivanvector: I didn't get the ping, sorry, but I'm pretty sure I did block the /25. It's wider than usual due to the CIDR given by Bullseye and is a partial block, so the collateral damage should be negligible. Sdrqaz (talk) 20:17, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sdrqaz: yeah I noticed that. I thought the block interface wouldn't accept an IPv6 range larger than /32, but maybe that's changed, or maybe it works for partial blocks? Doesn't seem to be anything more to do here, anyway. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:20, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ivanvector: The maximum v6 rangeblock is a /19, but the contributions page only works up to /32. I assume that it's for performance reasons? It shouldn't matter whether it's partial or full, but I've never done a full block that wide because I wouldn't be able to evaluate the collateral if I can't see all of the contributions from the range ... Unfortunately changing an existing comment doesn't send a ping; I like to fix them using edit summaries. Sdrqaz (talk) 20:48, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sdrqaz: good to know! We also can't checkuser a range larger than /32, and I would never block a range that large without being able to check it first. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:51, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Filmssssssssssss (talk) 13:31, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked: Hihelloyessey (talk · contribs). Protection doesn't seem necessary at this time. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:26, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement. Filmssssssssssss (talk) 13:55, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. The most recent disqualified edit was two months ago. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:32, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement. Filmssssssssssss (talk) 13:57, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. There have been a total of three edits to the page this year, and one was a revert. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:34, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. -- Least Action (talk) 14:36, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked.: 158.143.10.0/23 and 2A02:C7C:E03F:DC00::/64, who are probably the same person. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:20, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Addition of a joke to the page by IP editors - at least 20 times from December onwards. Tacyarg (talk) 14:50, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected indefinitely and move-protected indefinitely. What a waste of time. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:28, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Frequent IP vandalism and addition of inaccurate information. Requesting page protection to maintain accuracy and integrity. ExMLAangoorlatadeka (talk) 15:50, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. You have still not made the required paid contribution disclosure, as you have been told on your talk page is required. Please do that now, and do not edit again until you have done so. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:25, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Long-term disruption, original research, edit-warring from L.A. IP range Special:Contributions/2603:8000:A445:7300:0:0:0:0/64. Binksternet (talk) 16:36, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked: 2603:8000:A445:7300::/64 (talk · contribs) blocked by ScottishFinnishRadish.. I don't think further action is necessary. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:48, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. Skitash (talk) 17:01, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. The sock disrupting the article recently was blocked two days ago. You reverted Remsense today, who seems to have reverted themselves to the sockpuppet's version accidentally - that doesn't warrant protection. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:54, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Constant edit warring from new users. Jayanthkumar123 (talk) 17:15, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. The user you're battling with is not a new user, and I see no attempts to discuss the content in dispute. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:58, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Anonymous users repeatedly changing the date of the election. An election call is expected this weekend after which the date will be known; please protect at least through Sunday. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 17:58, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Daniel Case (talk) 20:57, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent sockpuppetry and disruptive editing. Skitash (talk) 18:05, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined - as before, sock was blocked two days prior to this request. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:30, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: IP disruption has returned Kingsif (talk) 19:52, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:32, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Requesting indefinite protection for this page. The moment protection was lifted, a series of disruptions occurred- some were caught by other editors but some made it through and persisted for several days. If not indefinite, at least increase protection for a longer period of time. This is why I despise unregistered accounts, but that is another convo. TNstingray (talk) 19:55, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

+1 This was only unprotected a couple of days ago and it's already been vandalized several times. Seeing as this page has had to spend the better part of nine years under some form of protection, I also support indef semi. Entranced98 (talk) 20:35, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    Semi-protected Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:43, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I meant to say that the years-long indefinite semiprotection has been restored, but cyberbot was fighting me on saving the edit. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:47, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Unsourced addition of content, disruptive edits by annon using Social Media as source. Mr.User200 (talk) 20:10, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:45, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Filmssssssssssss (talk) 20:29, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Pending changes seems to be working just fine here. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:47, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Consistent and preemptive vandalism about department closing prior to the actual signing of projected executive order. Coupled with multiple changes due to recent events Leaky.Solar (talk) 20:47, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:53, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – A whole bunch of IP editors adding that the page is related to 14/88 without citing sources, this has been ongoing at least for today though likely longer. CommissarDoggoTalk? 21:12, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism. Seasider53 (talk) 21:19, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: The protection is no longer necessary because The article is disrespectful towards those who practice it. The article uses terms like pseudoscience and quackery. We go to school for these things and practice them in labs. We know firsthand what it can do, as well as, there are numerous peer-reviewed studies on pubmed that validate the practice as legitimate ....... . 2600:4041:1AB:3600:F415:3966:537:705D (talk) 16:16, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected Not a valid reason for unprotection. Also, please contact the protecting admin first, before making a request here. RegentsPark (comment) 18:27, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Change Gaza genocide into Allegations of Genocide in Gaza Mapporn (talk) 17:08, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – No changes to the current protection level are required at this point in time. This topic is covered by arbitration enforcement. Accounts less than 30 days old and with fewer than 500 edits are not permitted to edit this topic. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:01, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
