Metropolitical jurisdiction
[edit]The metropolitan see has clear and not ceremonial jurisdiction over its suffragan sees according to Canon 436 of the Code of Canon Law, Latin-English Edition, translation prepared under the auspices of the Canon Law Society of America, Washington, D.C., 1983, at p. 163.
NPOV
[edit]I have revised portions of the article to express a more NPOV. Opinions, and unsubstantiated statements have been removed. Aloysius Patacsil 02:36, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
1827
[edit]The following text was in the 1827 article. I simplified it there to keep it in one line. It seems to add some detail to what's mentioned in this article. Maybe it should be merged into this article. Common Man 08:42, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- July 14 - Kingdom of Hawaii: The first Roman Catholic Mass is celebrated in the Hawaiian Islands by Fathers Abraham Armand and Alexis Bachelot of France and Patrick Short of the United Kingdom, members of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. It would be the foundation of the present-day Diocese of Honolulu.
Break out into separate articles on the Prefecture Apostolic and Vicariate Apostolic
[edit]The article is rather long and I am proposing to create new articles on the Prefecture Apostolic of the Sandwich Islands as well as its succeeding Vicariate Apostolic. The article would then focus on the current Diocese of Honolulu - with appropriate links to the historical jurisdictions. Aloysius Patacsil 22:07, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Citations
[edit]In order to protect this article from an editor slapping a "Needs citation" sticker on it, could we work on citing reference for every piece of fact we have stated on this article? I hate it when overzealous editors do that to every article they read, now. --Gerald Farinas 21:40, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
July 2021 Latin Church revision
[edit]As of July 2021, this article was modified to eliminate the nondescript term "Roman Catholic" in favor of the more precise distinction of "Latin Church" (the sui iuris church) and "Catholic Church" (the denomination). If you believe this edit to be in error or improper, please make the relevant reversion and open discussion on this talk page or my personal talk page. Thank you. ~ Pbritti (talk) 18:36, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
